the Word For The Day May 5

2 Timothy 2:1 (New King James Version) 1 You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

There is no excuse for a weak Christian.

Don't get me wrong. At one time or another we have allowed ourselves to be weak. But, there really is no excuse for it.

Why?

Because of the Cross.

In the Old Testament Israel received the favor of God as long as they honored the Covenant which was ratified by the blood of animals. As long as their faith was in Covenant they conquered their enemies and prospered.

Now, we have a better covenant based on better promises. How much more should we have victory and power over our enemies?

"But, Mace I thought the Cross was only for salvation. How does the Cross give us victory in life?"

Hebrews 9:13-14 (King James Version) 13For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: 14How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Notice, it is the blood of Christ ( the Cross) that gives the Holy Spirit legal latitude to work in our life to purge us from dead works ( the flesh, religion, sin) to serve the living God (sanctification).

This is Grace. This is God's favor. As you put your faith in the shed blood of Jesus the Holy Spirit empowers you, strengthens you, and sanctifies you.

The Word For The Day May 2

2 Timothy 1:13-14 (King James Version) 13Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 14That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.

The Greek word for form is hupotuposis. It means outline, plan and copy. You see, Paul was entrusted by the Holy Spirit with the New Covenant. Paul, in turn, preached the New Covenant.

We are to hold fast to the fundamentals of the New Covenant of which the foundation is the Cross of Christ. In the New Covenant we have salvation, peace, prosperity, righteousness, healing, Divine health, the Gifts of the Spirit and so on.

Hold fast don't let go of these truths. Don't get so practical that you practically leave the Holy Spirit.

In the New Covenant is the answer to the marriage problem, the wayward child problem and every other problem known to man.

There is no need to mix pop psychology with the Gospel. The blood of Jesus needs no help.
